Start Your Year With Your Day

Published by Sarah Hurley on

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

2020 is here! The Purposeful Living ladies just released a new podcast for the new year, new podcast season, and new decade (can you believe it’s a new decade??).

Guest, Sherry Borshoff, joined Nadine and Rachel as they discussed how to maximize your day. If you are looking for a fresh start in 2020, here is a list of 3 things that work for the Purposeful Living Team

  1. Start Your Day With God

Sherry says that she meditates, reads some scripture, and prays every morning and that she can tell a difference when she doesn’t. Rachel agrees and says that she notices she has more patience and intentionality throughout the day when she begins her day spending time with God. How you go through your day is often how you start your day so being intentional about the start is important.

2. Choose a Word for the Year

My schedule is a suggestion. My peace is a priority.

Many people have a word that is their theme for the year and Nadine McGowan, founder of Purposeful Living, is a great example of this. Nadine’s word for 2020 is “Peace”. Schedules can get busy and life can throw curveballs so Nadine finds it useful to focus on one word/theme for the year and “peace” makes perfect sense. Another Purposeful Living community member shared a quote that Nadine’s LOVES and is borrowing (stealing?) as her own. (whisper: ask her how she’s doing with this if you see her!)

3. Laser Focus on One or Two Areas

Do your relationships need to become your focus? Or perhaps you’d like to focus on growing your business in 2020. By prioritizing your top 1-2 priorities, you can then make decisions quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily about what to spend time on. This allows you to make wise decisions and check-in as often as necessary to take stock of where you spend time and effort compared to your stated priorities.

Helpful Hints

  • There is no right or wrong here. Find the system that works best for you!
  • It’s never too late to start over. Don’t give up. You can start again tomorrow or even right at this moment. You can start over more than once, too! 🙂
  • Do this with a friend or a group of friends. Hold each other accountable and make it fun!

Challenge of the week: Share your moments of starting over and your daily routine in the comments.
